The Verdant Fencing Club

A group of hardened warriors gathering weekly to test our mettle in glorious battle. Follow the sound of ringing steel and clashing shields to join the fight!

Also, a group of friends and neighbors who just like to play with swords. We meet up in the park, do a quick lesson in footwork or swordplay or some other technical piece of instruction led by our experienced volunteers, socialize, and engage in a few different styles of swordplay. Sometimes we bring lightsabers. Always, we have fun.

Rapier

A lighter combat style requiring just a gorget, fencing mask, and light gloves. Part swashbuckling, part Olympic-style fencing, all fun! Rapiers do not carry a live edge and use a rubber tip to reduce injury, although you should still plan to go home a little bruised. Rapier fighters are pictured here.

Cut-‘n-Thrust

A heavier combat style requiring additional physical protection. If you’ve seen HEMA- or SCA-style fighting, this looks a little more like that. Longswords! Plate armor! Combatants wear back-of-head protection and more armouring on their arms, legs, and torsos. (They also clank more, but shh, don’t tell them that.)

Rapier fighters face off in a park setting, swords drawn. They're dressed in casual athletic gear and wear fencing helmets.

Wondering Where in Wonderwood?

Look for us under the long shelter near the playground, and if all else fails, listen for us! Real steel sounds like it, and there’s usually laughter too.
